This year, he consumed 18,600 calories from the hot dogs and buns alone. Last year, he ate 63 hot dogs and buns, totaling 18,900 calories. In his record-setting year of 2021, he consumed a staggering 22,800 calories from 76 hot dogs and buns.

To put this into perspective, a man’s average recommended daily calorie intake is much lower than what Chestnut consumes during the competition. It is nearly six times the recommended average for someone his age and size like joey chestnut hot dog eating contest.
